Evergreen

I watch you sleep
tucked in the hollows
of my white eiderdown comforter
Batenburg lace framing
your disheveled face
My eyes trace the gentle lips
that kiss shadows
from my eyes
Brimming with defiant tears
Undone, I wait in the shelter of your wings
Beveled by the frigid breath of winter
my ravaged fields
inhale the ragged remembrance
of spring-
inweaved in you
Gnarled sighs lay prostrate
breath blooms gently
my heart trembles wrapped
in your evergreen arms
